Let Go

Let go.

Psalm 46:10 - Be still, and know that I am God.

Let Go

verb

'Relinquish one's grip on someone or something'

Confession time: I hate waiting. I could genuinely be one of the most impatient individuals alive. No joke, if I have to wait for ANYTHING stress levels increase by at least half, my mood alters scarily, and I can recall times where I have physically had to talk myself out of assaulting my computer. It sounds funny but I am very serious. I even get annoyed waiting for my FOOD to cool. But when I knew I had a problem? Travelling home from church one particular Sunday, (you need Jesus to deal with Sunday train services in London anyway) I noticed that the train I needed to be on would not be arriving for another 27 minutes. Astonished, I got on another train that would take me 30 minutes out of my way, just so I wouldn't have to wait. When that same 30 minutes waiting would have seen me on a train that would take me straight home. I mean it when I say I hate waiting.

The thing that makes me feel a little better about this flaw (though it shouldn't), is that I know I'm not the only one. I know that very close to 100% of people today would choose not to wait if they could. Because we now live in a civilization where EVERYTHING is designed to either eliminate or decrease waiting time. We are all in a hurry, the microwave generation. I believe that this inherent impatience comes from the overwhelming desire of human beings to control everything. To know what is going to happen next, and when. Because if we are waiting, for anything, that means it is out of our hands, and we aren't very good with that. We don’t trust that anyone could do a better job than us where the things we care about most are concerned, be it with our kids, our finances, name it. Human beings have trust issues. All of us.

Psalm 46:10 says, ‘Be still, and know that I am God’, when I first read this I remembered thinking, ‘I already know you’re God, and what on earth does being still have to do with anything? This world is so scary, there are so many things coming against me all the time, I feel like I’m fighting battles with things I didn’t know I would ever get in the ring with, and you’re me to be still so I can realise that you’re God?’ WHAT DOES THAT HAVE TO DO WITH ANYTHING? Believe it or not I actually found these 8 words to be some of the most frustrating in all of scripture, and then it dawned on me.

Like a lot of scripture, we have lost some of these words in translation, yes ‘be still and know that I am God’ is amazing in itself, but the literal Hebrew translation of the scripture reads as ‘Let go, because I am God’. Still confused? Well, from what we know, the God that we serve spoke the stars into existence, breathed life into dust, raised the dead to life, calmed storms, healed the sick, restored sight to the blind, breached the barrier between heaven and earth to be with us. THIS God, the God that we call father is worth being still for. He is effectively saying, ‘let go of this problem because it isn’t bigger than me, I am God. There is nothing that I can’t do. Give to me, and trust me with the things that keep you awake at night, because I am God. Let Go’

Your Kids aren’t acting right? - Let Go, He’s God

Your Finances are a joke? – Let Go, He’s God

Worried for a spouse or partner? – Let Go, He’s God

Scared to take that leap of faith? – Let Go, He’s God

Facing Trial? (Literally or Metaphorically?) –Let Go, He’s God

Letting go means removing situations from our hands, and being okay with the wait that comes along with that. It’s so hard, I know it is. But think about it? Your odds become so much better placing your concerns in the hands of the one that spins the earth on its axis, than keeping them in yours.
